Project Manager/Safety Officer John Southard accepts honor
San Rafael, Calif. (November 23, 2008)
- Plath & Company, a general contactors firm dedicated to construction and renovation of fine residential, commercial and historic structures has received a safety award from State Compensation Insurance Fund for an excellent safety record over the last four years.
John Southard, Project Manager and Safety officer of Plath & Co received this award from State Compensation Insurance Fund last week.
In a letter to John Southard, State Fund’s Loss Control Consultant for Plath & Co. stated, “Plath & Co. has had an excellent loss ratio for the last four years and a large part of that is due to the work that you and ownership have done to promote a strong safety consciousness for all employees. You, your self, have worked very hard to instill this culture and consciousness into everyday operations and I believe that it shows in the quality of employees you have and the quality of the work done by those employees.”
Plath and Company’s records show the company’s loss ratio has been less than 7% since January 2004, all due to minor cuts and injuries. Since its inception, John Southard’s outstanding Workplace Safety Program has responded to the health and safety concerns of over 50 employees both in the field and office.
John completed a Safety Specialty Certificate Program in Sacramento in October 2007. He has also been a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers since 2003. Under his guidance an extensive range of projects designed to promote employee safety have benefited all Plath employees, such as safety orientation training for all new employees, usage of an in-house defibrillator, CPR Training Classes as well as valuable information on ergonomic, wellness, earthquake preparedness and other safety issues.
