PLATH & COMPANY GENERAL CONTRACTORS WORK FEATURED AS ‘KITCHEN OF THE MONTH’ IN APRIL ISSUE OF HOUSE BEAUTIFUL

SAN RAFAEL, CA (April 3, 2008) – The extraordinary rehabilitation work of a kitchen in a 1905 San Francisco home by Plath & Company General Contactors was featured as ‘Kitchen of the Month’ in the April issue of House Beautiful. Plath & Company, dedicated to the building and renovation of fine homes and historic structures, took on the job which took over a year to complete and included the heralded kitchen, family room, bathroom and master closet. The home was originally designed by architect Frank Van Trees and was the first built in Presidio Terrace, with Andrew Skurman Architects working on this current rendition. The job took over a year to complete and included not only the kitchen but also the family room, bathroom and master closet. The interior decorating, executed by homeowner Susan Dossetter, was highlighted by her extensive antique collection and Parisian flea market acquisitions. From the La Cornue range to the farmhouse sinks and the antique English baker’s table that was converted into a kitchen island, the end product takes on the patina of old-world charm.

“This job was much more complicated than a mere renovation,” said founder Steven Plath. “There was the tear down of the old kitchen and garage, the construction of a 20 foot high retaining wall and the construction of a new two-story structure over the full basement addition. We specialize in historic structural renovations so this kind of project was a joy for us to work on. It’s particularly gratifying that a respected publication like House Beautiful would recognize this work.”

Plath & Company has been published in many magazines and has been the recipient of numerous awards over the past decade. This Old House Magazine named Plath & Company one of the 10 Best Contractors & Builders in America in 2005.
